About

My name is João Mendes, a 40-year-old Portuguese cross-disciplinary designer based in Lisbon. I specialize in crafting innovative, problem-solving solutions across my favorite creative fields: Product Design, Spatial Design, and Visualization.

Before earning my degree in Product Design, I spent a transformative year studying Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. This experience opened my eyes to a new perspective on art and design, becoming a cornerstone of my creative journey. During this time, I immersed myself in artistic concepts while gaining hands-on expertise with tools and machinery. Over the next four years, I worked extensively with materials like metal, wood, plastic, and ceramic, refining my technical skills and creative thinking. The knowledge I gained during this academic path not only launched my career but continues to influence my design philosophy today.

After completing my degree, I interned at a leading creative agency in the Portuguese market, where I dove into brand activation, exhibitions, packaging, and retail environments. This role laid the foundation for my career, equipping me with a versatile skill set and a deep appreciation for diverse design challenges.

Later, I specialized in exhibition stand design, achieving significant milestones such as winning a major state public tender and designing stands for renowned brands at music festivals. These experiences sharpened my design expertise and deepened my understanding of client needs, project execution, and the power of impactful visuals.

Over the past 18 years, I’ve worked across various design fields, gaining invaluable insights into diverse core business needs and how to deliver tailored, innovative solutions. This cross-disciplinary journey has shaped me into a well-rounded designer, capable of tackling complex challenges with creativity, precision, and a strategic mindset.

Today, I bring a signature design approach that blends creativity with meticulous attention to detail, transforming clients’ challenges into visually compelling and effective outcomes. I thrive on collaboration, working closely with clients to define the best strategies for each project. When needed, I tap into my trusted network of talented creatives to ensure exceptional results.
